About the instructor: Tony began his venture into art when his mother, Joyce, got him his first paint by number kit when he was only three years old. He took every art class offered in school that he possibly could and graduated from Colorado State University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. In 1980 Tony and his mother opened up their first ceramic shop together called Over The Rainbow, in Aurora Colorado. He quickly became certified by Duncan, Gare, Harrison Bell from England, Reward and Olivia Colors. From 1980 until the magazine sold in 1989, Tony had over 20 articles in Popular Ceramics, including four covers. As a certified judge for ICA (International Ceramic Association) he has judged large shows such as Anaheim and Pomona as well as many other smaller shows around the country. Around 1983 Tony took his first lace draping class, and realized that his interest in that craft, which he first developed around the age of 7 when he first saw a piece of Dresden Porcelain, quickly was becoming a passion for porcelain itself. In 1985 he started using his Chemistry expertise to begin developing his own clay and color formulas. He started with the fastest casting and whitest ceramic slip formula ever seen in Colorado and soon branched out into China Silk, which is now well know as being one of the finest porcelains ever developed in the US. His company, The Porcelain Place, has exhibited in trade shows for the ceramic industry, decorative painting industry, and glass industry for over 20 years. Tony has taught everything from lace draping, Spanish Oils, and china painting within the porcelain field; airbrushing, clay carving, and special glazing techniques within the ceramic field; Decorative Art Paste and non-firing pen and ink within the decorative painting field; and even warm glass techniques within the fired glass field. He recently was invited to teach in Portugal at an international convention of distributors through out Europe and has been asked by studios in four countries to help them establish an online educational system to link various countries within the EU. Along with his ceramic, porcelain, and glass pursuits, he is also very active in developing professional websites for artists, is currently working on a new concept of online kits for various techniques, along with six other artists, and will soon venture into the development of the first-ever online magazine for the international art field. ![]()
